10:30-10:40  Snack & Check In (how was YK, RHS?)

10:40-10:50  Shalom Bayit

Show and tell items brought from home to make this our home away from home
Place items around room/put items up in room

10:50-11:00   Introduce Hiddur Mitzvah: it is encouraged to create beauty in a place that we want to be special
Begin by asking “Why do we decorate our homes? What does it do for us?”
Discuss hiddur mitzvah
  • What sort of things do we decorate? Why?
(Shabbat tablecloths, decorating our bedrooms, etc.)
  • How does cleaning up our space make it more beautiful?

11:00-11:10  Finish K’vutza room banners
    1. Tear one foot off the bottom of the banner LENGTHWISE
    2. On the large piece that is left put your K’vutza name & each individual’s name
    3. Add other decorations, Hebrew words, Jewish values, etc. as you and your group like!

11:10-11:20  Mini Family banners for the sukkah
Divide the one foot strip that is left in as many pieces as you have families in your k’vutza.  Each family should put their family name on their mini banner with something special on there about them as a family.

Last 10 minutes:  Hachnassat Orchim
Erev Sukkot: how can we make people feel welcome?
Connect to “hiddur mitzvah” and give examples such as:
when we invite a guest we want to clean up to enhance our guests experience ties into...

HOMEWORK: Invite a guest over for a meal.  In preparation, talk about how we welcome guests and show hospitality.
